Okay, Wild Blue made it right. The tech guy came by on his way home from another install, on his own time, and got us up and running. For some reason, the dish had moved slightly, probably from the storm, and it wasn't getting a signal. Now we shall wait and see if it happens again. But for now, I'm a happy--and fast--camper.

It's been 28 hours and no glitches yet. Satellite internet isn't as fast as dsl, at least not with the value package we have, which has the slowest speeds. But I'm no longer waiting and waiting and waiting for pages to load up. I'm getting ready to check my usage, though. There are limits, and since we're pretty much on 24/7 between my husband, son, and I, we may hit our limit well before the month runs out.
Okay, this isn't good. We've already used 1/7th of our bandwidth for the month! So I'm going to have to use dialup for three weeks a month???? And still pay $50 for satellite? They assured me I wouldn't come close to using it all unless I was pirating movies or something. We haven't downloaded a single file. Damn.
Since the last comment, our download usage has averaged 150-200 MB's per day, which is fine. I'm guessing that first 1000 came from establishing the satellite connection to begin with. Whew!
So far, so good. Much faster than dial-up, though not warp speed since we went with the Value Pak, but definately acceptable. And so far, no more glitches, though there haven't been any storms since last week, so I'm still watching...
